If you went at our pace over 14 miles, it would feel like walking for you. Sarah and myself are saving it for Hull in a few weeks time. | | Sounds like a good club champ race! - SoreenEater, 2010-03-03 my report on this race,my first half marathon,i entered through runners world website as it said flat, underlating and on the road but on further looking up it turned out to have offroad sections namely the viking way, sunday came and we set off on what seemed a decent morning, but when we got there it was windy and wetish so thought what the hell try and make the most of it and had a look round only to bump into richard mackie, anyway time for the race so a quick mile warm up and onto the start line ready to go,few words from the starter bla bla bla oh and the lead vehicle is stuck in the mud on the viking way, thought to myself this is gonna be fun,so off we set off on what seemed a steady pace to mile one, quick look at the watch 5.23 thought christ but carried on,mile two and 10.58 after a slight uphill and then off road we go to mile three and 18 minutes odd lost all track of timing now as it was like running through a ploughed field and hard work for another mile and back onto the road, anyway back into a rythem and just kept doing six minute miles which was the plan stuggled a little in the last mile losing 3 places, but all in all was well happy with my first half had it not been for the off road sections i am sure i would have been around 1.16ish and well done to rich,he also had a good run by the looks of it,i have got to recommend this race to anyone, fantastic organisation well marshalled(did not go the wrong way for once)free massage after race,t shirt and a great lucky bag of allsorts, - , 2010-03-03 Sleaford Half - excellent runs from Steve Roebuck and Richard Mackie. Isn't it a half marathon with some off road? www.thepowerof10.info/resultsfiles/2010/32393_12972_03032010150352_Sleaford%20RESULTS%202010%20provisional.xls- SoreenEater, 2010-03-03 This man is on many a wanted list! www.flamingphotography.co.uk/photo4477563.html- SoreenEater, 2010-03-01 Yes,a mattering of white vests on show for this deceidedly lumpy local outing. Honours on the day go to pot hunter Buckley who was 1st lady back by a country mile. Great performance Julie. Keith g also must have had a good un (though he claimed that he didn't) as he finished 2nd in his Vet cat. Tarmac does hurt though - now looking forward to getting lost on the Chew next Sun - , 2010-03-01 Brilliant run by Julie and the rest of the PFR team. Well done everyone. Julie, is Phil still in Pocklington? www.huddersfieldroadrunners.co.uk/xinha/plugins/ExtendedFileManager/demo_images/HuddsRR10K2010Results.xls- SoreenEater, 2010-02-28 Snake Lane 10 - Alex and myself turned up for this one along with Phil Buckley. The plan was to run at 7:30 pace, to practice for the East Hull 20 in a few weeks time. Goal time for EH - 2hrs 30 mins. Didn't quite go according to plan. Looking at heart rate of 145 average - this was spot on. Finished in 70:15. Certainly could have done another 5 easily but not sure about 10. Alex got a PB of 66:15ish. Well done. Phil? I think he's still running. Cold but no rain. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-28 If you're not racing but wanting to get some miles in, J and me are meeting at Oxspring carpark at 8am sun morning for an 18 miler. A bit boring, we're sticking to the trail and running to Dunford and back but hopefully that will mean the weather can't upset our plans!!!!! - lakesidelady, 2010-02-27

Can we place an order? Sponsored by The Huntsman of course! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-24 How about 1 with race number printed on the front - I'd be happy to pay extra for that. | Wed 17th Feb 2010 | 21 at 21? |
| | Well it's my 21st next week and I've been trying to think of a way to celebrate this in a running way. So I've decided to run 21 of the Lakeland peaks at some point over the summer. Any ideas/suggestions on peaks not to be missed or route choices would be greatly appreciated. Also this being something of a half BG, it would be nice to start and finish at the Moot Hall. Current thinking is to have the last 6 as, Robinson, Hindscarth, Dale Head then taking in the 3 on the Cat Bells range. Oh and p.s. I have read Feet in the Clouds and am aware of Joss Naylor's 60 at 60 round before someone mentions how short this is. Oh the inexperience of youth... - TheDoctor | |
| | Pinnacle Ridge - brings back memories - a classic 3 star mod - not many of them in the Lakes. - Scab, 2010-02-24 some people call them walkers ...just the odd wrong letter. It is inviting to be up there but oh so dangerous. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-23 Interesting article in the link - bunch of walkers avalanched off St Sunday, just down the ridge from Fairfield. I didn't think it felt that stable... www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/7294726/Fell-walkers-swept-away-by-avalanche-in-Cumbria.html- KingSnail, 2010-02-23 Thanks very much for all the offers of help, I think that I may have to buy quite a few pints for people. Those pics of Fairfield look brilliant Mark. Hopefully there'll be less snow in summer although... - TheDoctor, 2010-02-23 As Andy says - I'd be happy to help you put a route together. Based on yesterday's experience, however, I'd avoid going straightup the side of Fairfield when it's covered in Ice and Snow. That would just be irresponsible and silly .... www.undeadmonkey.org.uk/MarkPhotos/2010/19th%20Feb%20-%20BG%20Leg%202/index.html- KingSnail, 2010-02-20 I'm the original grumpy old man! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-19 I am 33 but my documentation has been forged to get me into the V40 bracket. I thought I might bag a win somewhere. Sadly, my cunning plan has failed so I am going to try and wangle my way into the V65 group. By the way Scab, I was a spring chicken until 5 long years of working with Soreen took its toll. - BigAl, 2010-02-19 That's what teaching does to you. I'm only 41! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-19 Struggling at the moment with the concept that BigAl is only 33 next time round. So what is his excuse for the mediocre running preformances that some of us oldies put in? I have to say, he does look old for his age....... - Scab, 2010-02-19 Consider speaking with Mark (Pearce) with a view to "helping" his BG run and expanding the help to satisfy your desire of 21 tops. Glad to sit and develop a route with you when next down here. You are a superstar in the making. Can't remember 21st birthday. - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-18 All credit to you. It is refreshing to see an example of a fine, upstanding young man taking on such a challenge. I may follow your example and do a similar thing on my next birthday, however, 33 peaks is a bit daunting. On completion, I wouldn't rule out the monastic order. Trappist monks lead a simple life, free from the temptations and pressures of the capitalist system...they also brew some fine ales! - BigAl, 2010-02-18 Well after considering everything, from seeking help from AA meetings, to browsing the internet for which monastic order I should join, I think I might just go ahead with my original plan. Although the idea of how many can you fit into 21 hours is tempting. As an aside I think I've also picked my 21 to have a go at if anyone wants the list to laugh at it. Or suggest which branch of counselling would be the most useful. - TheDoctor, 2010-02-18 Given your unstable state of mind, may I suggest a visit to AA (Athletes Anonymous). I am confident these people will help you with your problem. A series of 1-1 sessions and meeting other addicts may be of great benefit with your troubles. It may be a long and difficult process to clear your mind of runs, hills, races and things but with the right help, you will do it. A period of cold turkey should be followed by shandy, leading up to pints of lager. Hooking up with groups of teenagers drinking cheap supermarket cider may also take your mind off things. It will be tough at times but I am confident you will pull through it! - BigAl, 2010-02-18 .....some solid and sensible advice there from the highly respected teaching fraternity. My mind was on other interests at 21. Given your clear state of mind perhaps I can suggest a w/e retreat in some kind of monastery. - Scab, 2010-02-18 As a young man you should be aware of the dangers of binge running. On weekend evenings the fells are full of youngsters suffering the ill effects of binge running. Be aware of the dangers and take the sensible option. A quiet evening in a pub supping strong continental lager will keep the fells free of running louts! - BigAl, 2010-02-17 Never mind running. May I suggest 21 pints of ale over a weekend or perhaps 21 1/2 pints on one night. Down a pint in 21 seconds or drink 3 pints of 7% ale. Start supping at noon and don't stop until 21.00. You must have caught a severe case of the running bug. How about drinking loads of ale followed by stacks of take-away food until you hit 21 stone? - BigAl, 2010-02-17 If I were you; I'd spend 3 weeks doing 21 peaks and 21 inns in 21 days! Why rush things, when you get to MY age you do stupid things like 60 peaks at 60 just to prove that you're not quite dead. See how many peaks you can do in 21hrs or better still, 21 minutes! All the best whatever you decide to do. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-17 | |
| Fri 19th Feb 2010 | Sunday Running 21st Feb |
| | Running the Penistone Boundary this Sunday. 8am start from Cubley Hall. Picking BigAl on the way. Sixteen miles of trail and bits of annoying tarmac. Any other takers? - SoreenEater | |
| | I bottled it.I was up at 6.30,took the daughter into work and by the time i got back it was coming down aplenty and i thought sod it.I've done 13 hilly miles today as a penance. - howey, 2010-02-22 Pocklington 10 for me and BigAl. Snow? Hope not. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-22 sleaford half marathon for me,never done an half just hope it dont get snowed off. - baldeagle, 2010-02-22 17 miles at not hanging around pace for me and other Tri Pansies on Sat a.m. - 3 peaks here we come!! For some reason I'm doing the H'field 10K next w/e which doesn't really fit in with my plan of trying to do distance stuff - is anyone else slogging round it? - Scab, 2010-02-22 As Mr Simpson would say, "Dough!" (doh!) - SoreenEater, 2010-02-21 Enjoyed the run this morning. Never realised how many nice routes we have locally. After getting home I braved the dangers of the Penistone bread run. Certainly not for the faint hearted. It was all gone by the time I arrived. I recon Frithy did an early bread sprint and bagged all the two for ones while he was at it. - BigAl, 2010-02-21 Thanks for letting me tag on this morning guys. Hope I didn't hold you up too much. - lakesidelady, 2010-02-21 Alex, Sarah and myself managed the 15.11 miles with 2000' climb around the boundary. Sarah managed to fall 3 times and we didn't do too badly either. Cleared up a bit after the first hour of snow flurries. Good to get out, no chance on the road. Saw the odd hare from time to time. Time for a soak in the bath I think. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-21 19 1/2 mile for me this morning with rick,we was going to do ilkley fell race until we saw the FRIGGIN SNOW,spring please, please, please hurry up. - baldeagle, 2010-02-21 After checking at 8.15 to find the Wombwell 5 had been cancelled I thought I would chase the footprints round the Boundary run. Unfortunately there weren't any. Managed a few miles anyway. - Overthehill, 2010-02-21 Don't know if you will read this in time but I am up for that. Just allow a bit of extra time for me to get there given the snow thats falling!!!! - lakesidelady, 2010-02-21 And Simon makes 3! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-20 Loads of snow in the morning? A good 16 miles on mainly trail. You know you want to. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-20 Anyone else doing anything else? - SoreenEater, 2010-02-20 | |

| Wed 17th Feb 2010 | Winter Handicap - final |
| | Keith and Anne nearly got the 55 they wanted. An excellent turnout. "Far better than last year!" (Scab quote) There was a shed load of spot prizes. "We didn't have that last year!" (Scab quote) Good organisation and some terrific pb's from quite a few people. "Much smoother running of the handicap!" (Scab quote)It's nice to know who your mates are Scab! Comments aside, it has been great to see so many people turn up to be tortured. Well done to everyone concerned. - SoreenEater | |
| | Thanks for that comment Soreen. I now have this nighmarish image of a post-op Scab that I am having difficulty in erasing from my thoughts. - BigAl, 2010-02-18 Thanks for custom at the Huntsman. I thoroughly enjoyed your company. I will be back to the club, particularly on Tuesdays, when things settle down int licensing trade. Andy - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-18 Winter Handicap Champion First Jackie Hetherington
Winter Handicap Champion 2nd Sarah Phelan
Winter Handicap Champion 3rd Sarah Jones-Morris
Not a man in sight! Hmmmm. Ah well Scab. Have an op and you might have a chance next year, just change your name to Sarah and away you go. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-18 Great company? Are you sure you were in the right pub? Can't have been at my table, they were all old and miserable, including me! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-18 As a new member can I say a big thanks to all who organised the winter handicap and especially at the Huntsman. A great evening, great beer and great company. - NorfolkandGood, 2010-02-18 I had every intention of watching the said match but was glued instead to the Womens Downhill on Beeb 2. Some awesome wipeouts. Anyway, who actually won t' andicap? - Scab, 2010-02-18 I'll miss these now they've fiished.I've managed every one and even missed the first 30 mins of the match to run last night.I just wished i'd run 60 minutes slower.Roll on the Trunce. - howey, 2010-02-17 Thanks to all those who helped with the races-Keith, Anne, Martyn,Ray. Some nice prizes at the end and the pie dinner was nice. The handicap is a tough course and seems like one long uphill struggle from the off. Trunce is on its way now. I find the Trunce a little easier than the handicap. Well done to Scab for doing a good run and polishing off 2 dinners...pancakes followed by a pie dinner. You need to take the Taybarn Challenge. My current record in 3 dinners and 2 puddings which is alot more impressive than my handicap times! - BigAl, 2010-02-17 I'll ignore that remark! You might NOT be 43rd young man. When the "haven't run enough to count" have been sifted out, you might have actually come 42nd! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-17 ...and the organiser met every participant with a welcoming smile which can't be said for the Malt Loaf stained teeth of the former incumbant. Sio all that effort through the year for a lowly 43rd place still at least I managed to dodge the choccie prize for the much more sought after Rescue Ale - ain't that right Newcasal? I'm adopting hte Swivel Hips approach next year by putting in some shocking performances before the last race just to get the handicap down. Many thanks to Keith and Anne for putting on a great show but at least we don't have to grind around the course until late Autumn.....whoopee!! - Scab, 2010-02-17

| Sun 17th Jan 2010 | Sunday runs.How's everybodys gone. |
| | I've had a lovely 11 mile run around the resevoirs today. It was a bit cold at the start but lovely in the valleys and now the roads are clear of snow it was far less of a struggle compared to last week.I did a bit off road through the snow just for the comedy running style. It also gives me an excuse if my times aren't great.
I've also seen a fair few walkers using the ski supports for some strange reason. They must be gutted the snows gone. - howey
| | Again not Sunday (Saturday) but as we have an entry in the Derwent Watershed, full 3 weeks to get 40 mile fit, Steve Burgess, Brent Lyndsey and me ran from Cut Throat bridge on the A57 at Moscar onto Derwent Edge following the route, I dropped off at Black Clough as I needed to get back to the pub, Steve and Brent carried on the the Snake summit, and beyond. I was out 3hours + and really enjoyed the conditions. Hard snow in all the groughs and hollows and the bogs frozen solid. If conditions are like this on the night it will be an easier task. - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-15 Liversedge Half marathon for me yesterday, really good route and race- don't know why people kept going on about hills, it wasn't a patch on penistone! - littlelegs, 2010-02-15 18 miles for me this morning back over to the Strines with a further mile then return. The mile past the Strines felt like a long one though.I must have checked my garmin a dozen times to see if i could turn round. - howey, 2010-02-14 Not a Sunday, but its weekend everyday for some of us, went up Mickleden today, snow was solid making it good to run on (99% of the time) over outer edge and down Cat Clough. Back to Iron Gate via Hordron and Swinden. Don't feel very fit at all, but a good couple of hours out antway. - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-08 i had a run around the first half of the skyline route today....still got a bit/alot of work to do to make the cut-off at mam nick. there were a few tricky snow patches on kinder to negotiate - straggler, 2010-02-07 16 miles for me this morning.Out to the Strines and back.Plenty of cyclists out and a farmers dog that fancied biting me.I do feel that i'm training for a marathon now i've done a long run.18 next week also 2 days before the last winter handicap. It will probably mean a slower last run but we'll see. - howey, 2010-02-07 12 mile very steady. No breakfast, just a coffee. Helps you to feel crap and learn what it feels like for the last 20 miles of a marathon! Teaches your body to burn fat and gives your brain the time to ask the question, "Why do I want to do a marathon?" - SoreenEater, 2010-02-07 Morning run of 8 miles at marathon pace (sub 5mins of course!) Afternoon 5k time trial with warm up and down. Yet another handicap on Tuesday! Be nice to finish in the top 10, hint hint! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-25 A majical mystery tour through the clouds, snow and mud to Bleaklow Stones and back. We didn't get lost. Absolutely not. - KingSnail, 2010-01-25 13 miles for me today. The program says steady and who am i to argue. - howey, 2010-01-24 5 mile walk through the drifts with a ski pole followed by a tomato and bacon buttie at Langsett Cafe. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-18 9 miles bouncing in and out of the snow, but it was great to be out! - tortuga, 2010-01-17 | |

Did TPT to Dunford and back via the road through to Millhouse. Not much speed at all- Friday has taken its toll. - BigAl, 2010-02-14 What time is the 16 miler for part time teachers? How did you get on today Big Al? Nearly got mowed down by some idiot in a car tonight on Joan Royd. Walked his dog up the track and back in less than 5mins. Tried to get me again on the way back but I decided to walk in the middle of the road until the junction. What's up with the drivers round here? - SoreenEater, 2010-02-14 Just been out for somewhere around 15.28173423293miles or thereabouts. Felt like hard work with all them hills. Need plenty of carbos OR maybe a few beers looks a better bet! - SoreenEater, 2010-02-14 forgot to say it is the senior mens record, just got back in from another 16 miler and they are starting to feel easier even after the beers last night. - baldeagle, 2010-02-14 Apologies Baldeagle, I see there are no V35 male records for any distance, so I take it you are after Keith's Senior record.
Soreeneater you should easily do sub 2:30 the way your running. - Grinah, 2010-02-14 I know BE isn't 40, I was just commenting on the record that Keith set was such a fantastic one. The year before at 39, he'd run just over 2 hours. How the heck do you manage to run 2 x 10 miles at such a fantastic pace? I'll be happy with 2 1/2 hours. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-14 I know Baldeagle looks 40 but he isn't.I think he might set a record V35 but will have to run another 20 miles to break it. Needs to have a word with Martyn C. I am sure he is more than capable of going under 2hrs. - Grinah, 2010-02-13 I am doing a 2-3hr run tomorrow along the TPT to Dunford and then up to A628 and reverse of G and B It course. If you are doing 16 miles early doors Monday let me know a time and place. - BigAl, 2010-02-13 J and me also doig Spen 20 with a target of just getting round and feeling more comfortable at Hull. Will have to discuss lifts at Huntsman on tues. Am plannig a 16 miler mon morning if you're free, as it's half term! - lakesidelady, 2010-02-13 Good luck with the record Bald Eagle. That is a whopper of a run if you can break the record. I could probably keep that pace for 3 miles and then I would be physically finished. I am doing the Spen 20 with a target of just getting to the end without stopping! - BigAl, 2010-02-12 Just looked at the V40 record by K.Davis - 1:57:42! Sub 60 mins for 10 miles and then same again! That was some run. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-12 We could do with a club mini-bus at this rate. I'll be your pacemaker baldeagle!(for the first 50 metres) - SoreenEater, 2010-02-12 Me and gazza are having a crack at this, gazza as part of his london training and me going for the club record so all pacemakers welcome please. - baldeagle, 2010-02-12 I fancy doing this.I've bottled it the last few years but i'm ready this time.20 miles is enough for anybody. The other 6.2 in the marathon are a waste of time and bloody painful. - howey, 2010-02-11 I'm up for it.I've bottled it the last few years but this time i'm ready.20 miles takes you right up to the hurting bit of the marathon so it should be great to just step off the treadmill so to speak as the pain starts. - howey, 2010-02-11 I must be barmy! Just entered the Spen 20 as a warm up for the Hull 20 a few weeks later! Good job I'm a teacher with loads of time to do the training. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-11 Jackie and I have entered. I did it last year and it wasn't a bad run over, about 1hr 10mins (not counting getting lost!!) We've also entered Spen 20 2 weeks before, I believe some of the route is the same as Liversedge 1/2. Go on, you know you wanna!!!! - lakesidelady, 2010-02-11

A bit of snap will be available and the usual 6 hand pulled beers. - Mouth Almighty

Crazy Crow were brilliant again and must thank Phil (sound engineer) for setting up the 2 microphones to transfer the music to the other side of the pub. - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-12 Was the Newcastle game a "Derby" match? - SoreenEater, 2010-02-10 I notice that the resident Geordie hasn't come on here today, I wonder why.....YYYYYOOOUUU RRRAAAAMMMMSSSS. - Scab, 2010-02-10 See you there... - KingSnail, 2010-02-10

Same distance/climbing and not too far aeay to get to. It's normally a nav race but not this year by the looks of it - Sun Mar 7th - Chew Valley Skyline - 11am - 13m/2000' from Dovestone Sailing Club, Greenfield, Saddleworth, not far from Holmfirth GR 013033. £7.00 PRE-ENTRY ONLY BY 27TH FEB. | | Sounds great but it's the same day as NOrton 9 which is a championship race!! It's as though me and fell racing just aren't meant to be! - lakesidelady, 2010-02-11 Get you Grinah!! - thanks for the tip - mind you the old school compass did me well when finishing a lofty 7th in a Saunders Class 1 year. So yah - boo - sucks. Got me entry off - anyone else coming? - Scab, 2010-02-10 If you had turned up to the Club OGM you would have known about this race a few weeks earlier Scab. Also when the organiser asks for map and compass its not what you used to draw circles with at school, but it might not stop you going round in circles as happened to me this weekend!! - Grinah, 2010-02-08 It's a shame it was cancelled, as it would have been a hoot in the clag on Sunday. Ran most of the course with Brent and then up Abbey Brook and back up derwent edge, and managed to get spatially challenged (as opposed to lost) a few times. But at least we didn't turn back. - KingSnail, 2010-02-08 Frank also organised events in the area. Damn the small keys and big fingers. (and bad spelling). - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-08 Superb race this one, used to be an annual event before the orienteering one took over. Brought it back for one year a while ago as a memorial to Frank Sykes who organu=ised a lot of things in the area. Not an orienteering thing but if the clags down you'll need your wits about you. Will be full kit check race as well, so if you are planning on doing it take everything with you. - Mouth Almighty, 2010-02-08

As for Taybarns, I only have 5 dinners and 3 puddings 'cos the plates are so small. Futhermore, they are all healthy options...honest! Hope Soreen gets the bog sorted. You make all the effort with the guest towels and then the lav goes and lets you down. - BigAl, 2010-02-06 Believe me the snow hasn't gone, just a snow field after Mickleden Edge all way up the grough to Cut Gate. Have a goof run. - Grinah, 2010-02-06 No going to Taybarns for 3 dinners and 5 puddings then. I'd like to go but the yearly visitor in residing at Cubley Manor. Having to polish the family silver! Trying to get out early for a tarmac half marathon to Ingbirchworth. Went to Kettlewell today. The views were fantastic above the mist, squashed sarnie and coffee with the sun beating down. Maybe I've got one or two unwanted Christmas pressies lurking somewhere. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-05 I think I'll be in 28th spot! 50p on it each way. - SoreenEater, 2010-02-05 Is there a book running for the first past the post in the final run?Do some hold back throughout the other runs just to get a decent handicap or are we all playing fair?I fancy my chances to be honest now i know i've not been nipped.I will add though that i've ran by best in every race.It will cetainly be interesting to see how many PB's there is. - howey, 2010-02-04 So for the next race Knoxy has got a full minute on me. But will it be enough? - KingSnail, 2010-02-03 Unfortunately my race plan was upset on the night. Following the smack on the arse in the dark lane I thought it was my lucky night therefore I stopped to do my hair and put on some aftershave only to hear Kingsnail shouting some abuse as he sped of into the distance. I'd got it planned to just outpace both Kingsnail and Scab with my quick turn of speed near the finishing straight. Fortunately for both of them my race plan was sabotaged early on in the race. - Newcasal, 2010-01-28 I managed my 12 tonight but struggled at the end. It's in the bank now though and the beer is in the fridge.I haven't checked tomorrows schedule yet as it spoil my night. It's good to read that others ran well also.I do though believe that everybody who beat me is off the wrong handicap and all those i beat didn't run as well as me.
I'm not a team player. - howey, 2010-01-27 Obviously all the running that you didn't do at the weekend paid off, almost. Anyway, never mind that, what happened to Knoxy struggling up the hill? Even a smack on the arse didn't spur him on... - KingSnail, 2010-01-27 I surprised me-self what with me being a "Tri-Club Pansy", it must have been down to the new rocket shoes I was wearing. Didn't quite get in front of Kingsnail though who must have sensed my presence with 2m to go! Mind you I'd given him a 1/2 hour head start. The leaner, meaner hip swiveller came away with 1st past the post and I sincerely hope that he gets put in his place for thfinal race. - , 2010-01-27 Felt better tonight and ran better than last week. Bit worried when Scab went by on the steep downhill after the windmills. Just one to go. Can't wait for the pie and peas. Can we have them BEFORE the race. Might help to be wind assisted! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-26 PB for me tonight and well pleased with the run.I'm running home from work tomorrow,12 miles, and no doubt they'll be a price to pay.I was diagnosed with oldmanslegs a while ago and there is no cure. - howey, 2010-01-26

| | Anyone have any up to date news on the amount of snow on Mickleden Edge? (I do know that it is WHITE!) - SoreenEater | |
| | It's now quite runnable up over Cut Gate - ground and snow is very hard, but the ice is very slippy. We ran the Cut Throat Bridge to Snake Top section of the HPM in about 4:45 today. Some pics here www.undeadmonkey.org.uk/MarkPhotos/2010/30th%20Jan%20-%20HPM%20Recce/index.html- KingSnail, 2010-01-30 Ta for the offer but I'm afraid that I'll be running elsewhere with the other Tri Pansy's that I share time with early on a sat a.m. Make sure you report back the conditions. - Scab, 2010-01-29 Scab and anyone else interested!!! Jackie and I are hoping to reccy Mickledon Straddle sat morning but we have only a vague idea of route. If anyone would care to join us/ show us the way we are planning on meeting at 8am. - lakesidelady, 2010-01-27 Some piccies here from out little Sunday outing... www.undeadmonkey.org.uk/MarkPhotos/2010/24th%20Jan%20-%20Bleaklow/index.html- KingSnail, 2010-01-25 You would have thought that by the number of runners from the Club going up Mickleden someone would have thought to take a shovel and clear the snow from the path.
I don't think the snow will have gone by race day so I should get digging!! - Grinah, 2010-01-25 i went up the cut gate path on friday as far as the finger post, alot of snow still lying over the path, up to my knees in places... - straggler, 2010-01-25 I can just see next week's Chronicle headline "Tri Club pansies chuck in towel!" - KingSnail, 2010-01-25 I am ashamed to say that there were 4 of us Sat a.m. who were beaten back by the conditions 1/2 way up Cut-Gate. The weather was picture perfect but the accumulation that has drifted onto the path was a right pain in the a*se. No single step could be relied on with 1 foot staying firm on the surface with the next breaking through and trashing the shin. An executive decision to abort was taken on the basis that not much running was going on. Put 2hrs 45mins in the bank though. It will be fine by race day I'm sure - will probably try again next sat a.m.so will report back then. - Scab, 2010-01-25 Went out on Derwent Edge today. It was a beautiful day from time to time. Underfoot it was dreadful. Mickleden must be more of the same. Hoe itclears for people doing the race. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-23

Bit boring, but ...... - SoreenEater, 2010-01-15 The ground conditions aren't my problem, did a lovely run on monday taking in the 2nd half of the handicap route. Biggest problem is school closures!! I've not worked out how to do a long run with 4 kids in tow. Have lost a week of my schedule and being signed up to TWO 20 mile races am now panicking. My fear is increasing distance too quickly and paying for it. Imagine many people in the same boat. Ah well, see what my Runners World advises...... If anyone would like to join myself and Jackie on the long runs, the more the merrier. Catch us on a tues night....... weather permitting! - lakesidelady, 2010-01-15 running in the cold weather isn't the problem for me- apart from doing any form of speed sessions- distance is fine. Just my damn legs that can't take the strain-ouch. - littlelegs, 2010-01-15 Running to and/or from work is about I'll I can do at the moment. Winter Handicap next week should see some slower times? - SoreenEater, 2010-01-14 Two weeks training gone down the pan now, this is really starting to pi$$ me off big time, seems like i have not raced for weeks and trying to get ready for mickleden is like well pi$$ing in the snow, getting the miles in but cannot take much more of this plodding malarky, off out now for another friggin plod. - baldeagle, 2010-01-14 I've not run outside since the last winter handicap and even the treadmills at Penistone Leisure Centre are overbooked. - tortuga, 2010-01-13 I've decided to do the Shakespere marathon and although i struggled last week i'm still managing to follow the program this week. The milage is do able but the times have gone out of the window.I'm not particully bothered about the times as such as at the mo i think it's more important to get the muscles built up.Hopefully by the time the snow has gone i'll feel the benefit and be flying(as if) - howey, 2010-01-13
| Thu 14th Jan 2010 | Coniston 14 - Just a bit more than that I'm afraid! |
| | If I enter this race - will my time stand as a club record for 14 miles? (no V55 has run it yet)
Damage to the bridge between Water Yeat and Nibthwaite during the floods in November has meant we have had to lengthen the course to make the circuit of Conistonwater. The race will continue beyond Water Yeat to Lowick, cross the bridge and turn back towards Nibthwaite. This will make the total distance 16.7 miles. There will be an extra water station at Nibthwaite.
We are calling the race the CONISTON 14 PLUS. - SoreenEater

Go on Frithy, you know you want to. - BigAl, 2010-01-11 Well after all that I can't even enter hehe. I seem to be somewhat lacking in experience, story of my life. Oh well try again next year...Back to school on either friday or sunday, depending on the weather and trains running etc. Wouldn't mind being there on sat though. - TheDoctor, 2010-01-11 I'm in and given the post Crimbo extra padding I seem to have accumulated, I've ordered a large t-shirt just in case i can't get it shifted. - Scab, 2010-01-11 Now up to 235, should I or shouldn't I? Forgot what cramp feels like coming off Inglebugger. Will sleep on it and decide tomorrow.
PS When does the Doctor go back to school? - Grinah, 2010-01-11 Just put my PPP entry in ... Up to 150 already... - KingSnail, 2010-01-11 now you're at the top of the message board doctor! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-10 Don't do it! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-10
| Mon 11th Jan 2010 | i-Roc 28 - 31 May |

| | Saturday night on the message board? Sad teachers! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-09 If I stop typing things that will leave only you posting messages! - Newcasal, 2010-01-09 Stop thinking of something to type Newcasal! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-07 Newcasal! Stop typing in the bottom box! You type your reply in the top box and then websites in the bottom box!!!! Teachers! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-06 Turned up to the Handicap but no one around. Ran the Handicap myself and ran the best time I have ever run. Unfortunately no witnesses. Does my time still count? Check the website if you are in doubt about my story www.liarliarpantsonfire.com.- Newcasal, 2010-01-06 Went out for a run with Alex. Partly on the Handicap route. Fine where it wa snow but not good where the farmer had and WAS clearing snow. If it freezes, it will be worse than ever. If school is closed, might have a run to Dunford Bridge and then onto Langsett cafe. The joys of snow. All before 9am of course! - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 Surely that has a knock on effect for those of us who take 3 weeks to recover between races......ergo last race will be the week after 1/2 term? Have my prayers been answered......... - Scab, 2010-01-05 message from Winter Handicap site: Race postponed until further notice. Hopefully next week if the weather improves.
The course is probably quite runnable with a nice layer of fresh snow but traveling to the leisure centre will be impossible for many and I cannot ask anyone to drive in this weather. I will be at the Leisure Centre at 6.30pm so if anyone else turns up we can have the usual Tuesday run somewhere, maybe even round the handicap course! As a wiser person than me said: 'No matter what you decide someone will complain', so sorry to all of you who are inconvenienced by this.
Go to link to check this - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 Just phoned Leisure Centre - car park is 6in deep in snow and no cars in or out at the moment. He says he may be closing "later". No definition of "later" though. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 7 inches in Silkstone? In this weather? Brrrrrr. it's 7mm in Peni - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 The highly accurate snow-o-meter (ruler) says that its about 7 inches in Silkstone at the momemnt. No signs of stopping here either. Remember if you don't like snow, Brent loves it. Why don't you give him some next time you see him... - TheDoctor, 2010-01-05 Are you allowed to use ski power or a sledge pulled by huskies? It ain't stopped all day. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 Will it be on or not? Got to work this morning and I was told that they weren't opening! Walk home. It will truly be a WINTER handicap if it goes ahead. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-05 Looks like it's on! Brrrrrrrrr! Check the link again for further. details. Need a good fall of snow to give some grip. - SoreenEater, 2010-01-04
| Thu 7th Jan 2010 | Thursday Run? |
| | Is it still on? Or is everyone too busy, stockpiling bread in Penistone? - TheDoctor | |
| | Well, just spent 15 mins defrosting my Inov-8's in anticipation of going off road. Why oh why were they in the garage...? - TheDoctor, 2010-01-07 I am hoping to be there, could do an off road run.
Weather conditions must have improved markedly, even the teachers appear to be back at work and not frolicing in the snow! - Grinah, 2010-01-07
| Wed 6th Jan 2010 | Up on't Moors |
| | Don't go anywhere near North America Farm at the moment. The snow is knee deep at least and more often than not, up to your bits. Fun but very tiring. Did some speedwork on the A616 and 635 this morning. Not a car in sight, except for the police. It's brilliant seeing so few cars on the road and more people exercising. No meat Monday? What about; No car Sunday! - SoreenEater | |

| | June 10th? It will be much warmer! - SoreenEater, 2009-12-30 Sorry Scab but it was pointed out at the meeting when I took on the winter handicap that the last race was in half term week and should it be put back a week. Nobody seemed too bothered. However, if there is a peasant's revolt then it could be a week later. e-mail your views. keithhgordon@mac.com - Overthehill, 2009-12-30 A dedicated athlete would have cancelled their holidays... [Hides under desk] - KingSnail, 2009-12-16 So having missed last night's outing I said to myself that I'll have to do the 2 January races to be eligible to compete in the final race ........only then to discover that the final race on 16th Feb is during 1/2 term week when I'll be away on me jollies....drat. anyone else in the same boat? Perhaps we could ask ever so nicely that kind hearted Mr Gordon to shift the date. - Scab, 2009-12-16 Alas, I can't make it - kids have their xmas show on that night. will try and make the Huntsman aferwards. - Scab, 2009-12-11 Never too late to change. None to be seen for me however...photos as usual on richard a's website the ones in the middle seem to have a decidedly wintry feel for some reason... I seem to have managed to stay out of them by trying a dodgy overtaking move on the way in! Link to the pics below www.flamingphotography.co.uk/portfolio81205.html- TheDoctor, 2009-12-20 Did the race go ahead? Went Christmas relative visiting! | | Off up to Edinburgh for this on saturday, possible champs race for the future maybe...hehe. It might well say Durham University AC on the results page but its PFR at heart. Good luck to everyone doing the 10k this weekend, i'm just throwing those points away... - TheDoctor | |
| | Superb race, 2 lapper on the Braid Hills golf course just outside the centre. Slow drag up to the trig point, quick look back for the magnificent views over Arthur's Seat and the City, then the mad dash back to the start to try it all again. Finished 203rd (48:37) in a strong field of mostly Uni runners, did manage to beat someone from Leeds Uni though not many others! Hope everyone had a good race at the 10k and all's well down there. - TheDoctor, 2009-11-20 How did it go? Did you get washed/blown away? Do tell!- UphillStruggler, 2009-11-14 | |

| Sun 25th Oct 2009 | Holmfrith 15 (couldn't resist it!) |
| | Travelled over for the Holmfirth 15 with Alex Simon. It's a long time since I did it, in fact the last race I did there resulted in me having to help someone who had been knocked down by a car! One or two 4x4's tried a repeat performance today. ****pots! Mile 1 was steady, 6:12!!!! Slow down Frithy. Mile 2 - 5:58! No way. Decided not to trust the mile markers after that. 2nd lap saw a 10 min mile plus for mile 9 and a 4 min mile for the next one! Reckon that someone had moved the markers or just mixed them up due to it being a two lap race. Legs are aching like mad. Results as follows:
35th Steve Frith 1:43:14 3rd V55 and 3rd Yorks V55
67th Alex Simon 1:52:36
76th Matthew Burton 1:55:22

| Mon 19th Oct 2009 | Bridlington Half |
| | Had a brilliant weekend staying overnight in Alex's caravan. Walked the beach with the love of my life (the wife of course), made spag bog for Alex and myself as well as enduring Strictly Come Dancing! Late start which suited me quite well. Started off fast and then got slower. Held the pace I needed until the last 3 miles. Shortage of liquid I think. Much prefer bottles to cups. Completed the course in 1:27:58 while Alex (I feel crap and haven't done any training) was well pleased with his time of 1:33 DEAD! Came first V55 but don't know if their were age cat. prizes. The aim was to get under 1:30 which I haven't done since I was about 44. Well chuffed. Holmfirth Hobble next week. Could do with a massage. Any offers? - SoreenEater | |

| Mon 21st Sep 2009 | Winter Handicap - Juniors v Seniors |
| | The juniors had a record breaking 49 entries. Will the Seniors do better or worse? I was really pleased to see 17 kids from Silkstone Primary(many of them PFR Juniors)in the BH Shuffle Race. 17 out of a total of 23 entries. I might have to ask Sal to sub me for tomorrow's outrageous entry fee. (he he) www.needtowinthe£10.co.uk - SoreenEater | |

It will be interesting to see what the handicaps are! - SoreenEater, 2009-10-08 It must be Winter, Scabs resurfaced or was it the lure of £10 for the Winner.Keith take no notice of his time, this guys waiting for the last Race.- Grinah, 2009-09-24 A heart rate of 170 is perfectly normal for some of the massage joints in Beeston.... - KingSnail, 2009-09-23 Sore calfs this a.m but an average heart rate in the mid 17o's suggests that I ought to be visiting a Cardiologist rather than a masseur. Perhaps I just need to get fit. Told Martin C by email this a.m of my 19 min course record time adding that there was clearly no-one in front of me which left me bemused by my 32nd position on the night. I also added that Messrs Law, Storey Jnr, and Roebuck finished a good 10 mins after me. - Scab, 2009-09-23
| Sat 3rd Oct 2009 | Grin and Bear IT! |
| | That was the windiest race I have ever taken part in. Mickleden Edge was a nightmare and it seemed to take an age to reach Cut Gate. Half way across Outer Edge and a runner tries to retrieve a shoe deep from within the bog. I ran the fastest I've ever done with a 50mph wind behind me as I made my way to Lady Cross. This was after helping to extract a young lady, with the help of Robin Clough BH, from one of the boggy groughs. She was well and truly stuck.
Road crossing, snatch a mars bar and away. Slight error with Mark P on the BB course. Onto the road and towards Winscar Res.
Quarry, woodland, hmm, out comes the map and about 8 people wait for me to decide if it's this particular track to the road. It is! Onward and upward. Back on track, know exactly where I am until the last little section on Ox whatsit lane. Slight downhill and uphill before reaching APlummer in his van. GET THE MAP OUT NEXT TIME FRITHY! Andy had to cope with about a dozen people coming in all at once. Brilliant food, good massage and definitely one to miss next year! Only joking. A big vote of thanks to all those who helped. It can only get better. Brid Half in a couple of weeks and then Holmfirth 15, both will be a doddle! www.windyweather.co.uk - SoreenEater

Due to Woodhead team's prior engagement (GnB it) called Glossop in to help extract him. Spoke to Wayne last night and not fractured but swollen and sore. Had 2 injuries in the car park before the event started, one lady fell and potential fractured wrist and one of the minibus drivers wrenched his ankle getting out of his bus. Then Dave Crossland, responding to a call, was driving team LandRover through Upper Midhope and a 4 x 4 coming fast round a corner ran into him, few dents in Landy panels but complete mess to the fron of the 4 x 4. (whoops). - , 2009-10-04 Anyone know who the injured parties were in the race. Saw Wayne on Mickleden Edge with another guy. Looked as thought he'd got a plaster in his hand. Was it worse than a cut? Hope not. - SoreenEater, 2009-10-03

| | First "road" speedwork of the autumn season. Wentworth Road area. See Martyn Cartwright for details. - SoreenEater | |
| | Oops! I'm 1 of the culprits garbed in "Man from Black Magic ad" attire. I'll leave the full hood at home next time and bring something gawdy. - Scab, 2009-10-01 We'll certainly need them for the next Winter Handicap! - SoreenEater, 2009-09-29 Just had a "complaint" from a friend who was driving down Wentworth Road whilst speed training was taking place. While watching the runners in reflective bibs / yellow clothing nearly ran into a couple of runners NOT wearing reflective clothing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE wear reflective gear whilst running on the roads. Can you imagine how much paperwork goes with an accident, let alone the pain. FOR YOUR SAFETIES SAKE - BE SEEN. - Mouth Almighty, 2009-09-29 Better if I told you the date!!!
